We took a 3 day trip up to Holland, Michigan to spend some time at the beach on Lake Michigan. And let me tell ya, 3 days was not long enough! It was truly wonderful and soooo relaxing. We brought our niece Lacey with us, and the kids had a blast playing at the beach and in the pool. Our hotel sat on Lake Macatawa, that leads out to the big lake. That is where the boat docks and marinas are. We enjoyed eating meals on the picnic tables over looking the marina. The hotel had a pool and shuffle board that kept the kiddos busy when we weren't at the beach. We also took the 239 steps to the top of Mt. Pisgah, a huge sand dune that had beautiful views of both Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa. But, the highlight of the trip was definatly Ottawa Beach. It rivals any that we have been on at either coast! The beach was huge, with plenty of room to relax, or for walking or a game of football. There was a brisk wind coming across the lake the 2nd day of our trip, which made the waves huge, practically over my head! Me, Greg and Lacey had a ball body surfing the waves! ( Aaron looked at the waves and said there was no way he was getting in those, so he built sandcastles! ) I was able to indulge in my obsession of lighthouses, as Big Red Lighthouse sits right at the edge of the beach where Lake Macatawa and the big lake meet. Right before we headed home, we checked out downtown Holland, and it was just as charming as the rest of the area. Lots of cute specialty stores and cafes, beautiful flowers and windmills, and small statues around town. Lacey and I loved window shopping, the guys not so much! Honestly, I am ready to go back, or buy a summer home there! LOL! I am sure that we will be heading that way again next summer!
