Welcome to our homestead! Our home is a fun one, full of love, laughter, and downright goofiness sometimes! Check in on us as we tend to our rural 2 acres, raise our 11 year old son, fight fires and chase bad guys! ( That's just Greg, I'll stick with the gardening and cooking! ) We pray that we honor the Lord in the process, as we strive to grow in His grace.

What A Crazy Week!

It has been a roller coaster kind of week around here! The weather has been crazy, too. We have had severe thunderstorms, which produced the beautiful rainbow behind our house. After another evening storm, the sky turned such a gorgeous shade of pink. The benefit to all of the rain is that my garden is growing so fast! I am ready for some fresh tomatoes and beans, yum! The weather also brought a small snapping turtle into our yard, which Aaron named Franklin. He played with him for awhile before putting him back into our creek. He was pretty cool! The massive spider that was on the house this evening when I took Peyton out was not so cool. It was at least 2 inches long and possibly the biggest spider I have ever seen besides the ones on National Geographic. I am still tramatized and scared it will come into the house. It would take a gun to kill this thing, I tell ya.
We got news from Dad's newest CT scan that the treatments he has been using the past 6 weeks have not been shrinking the cancer nor have stopped its growth. As Dad says we are now on to "plan Z". He is meeting with a Dr. at OSU who may have some different treatment ideas, as well as continuing to work with Dr. Mason. He feels good and his sence of humor is well in tact, so we are all ready to tackle the next stage of treatment. I have said it before and I will say it again, his strength and courage is astounding, and I am so proud of him for how he has tackled this battle head on!!! I could only hope of being half as tough as he is!

Peyton has continued to have her series of issues. Is there a lemon law when it comes to dogs? LOL!!! She got a small seed lodged in the cornea of her eye, and had to have surgery to have it removed. Her eye should heal just fine, but now I call her One-Eyed Willie. Greg calls her the million dollar dog! Thankfully she is cute and that has helped her a lot lately!

Last but certainly not least, we found out that Greg cannot fly. He was cleaning gutters when the ladder came out from under him, and he landed on the driveway 8 feet below. After a trip to urgent care and xrays, he has nothing broken, but has a sprained ankle and possibly a dislocated elbow. ( and a wife who about had a cow. )

I continue to remind myself that God is good ALL of the time, not just in the good times, but in the challenging times as well!!! :)

  2. I just stopped by and spotted your spider. Well guess what....I have two of these guys living on the side of my house in the English Ivy! We live in a heavily wooded area next to the Lorain County Metro Parks. I believe you also live out in a wooded area, maybe that's why we have them. My doc. friends and nurse friends told me just to step on it, and I said yeah right!!! I think I need to get my 38 special out and shoot it!!! I have pictures of it but it's on my cell phone and I can't transfer the photos. I think that these things have hair on them!! They look like baby tarantulas!! I'll just let it be and hopefully it will let us be. I hope that it never gets in the house!!!!
