It has been a difficult weekend for our family. An EF-3 mile wide tornado ripped through our family's "hometown" of West Liberty, KY. Greg's parents grew up here, and most all of his aunts, uncles and cousins live here. Greg's mom still owns the homestead, which was Granny's house until she moved to Ohio for Greg's mom to care for her. These pics are of that house, which has been destroyed by the twister. Thank the Lord, all of our family is alive and well. But, we are still heart broken over the loss of her house and of the town. That house was always the central gathering place for all of our family, and also where Greg holds so many wonderful childhood memories of his grandparents. I have spent so much time there over the last 20 years that it feels like a second home. Greg and I have talked so many times of wanting to live in this small town nestled in the mountains. It is a hometown full of God fearing, tough and resilient people, and they have a long road ahead of them to rebuild their town. Our cousin Heather was at work at Giovanni's when the storm hit. She protected and rescued 3 children out of the rubble, and made it out without a scratch. She is a hero and we are so proud of her! Please pray for this sweet town as they recover and rebuild their lives, and as Greg's mom tackles the huge task of rebuilding the home there that she plans on retiring to next year.
I am sorry to hear of all the destruction in Greg's hometown! It looks as if there is not much left. Very sad! So happy to know that no one was seriously injured or killed. I am sure that by this time next year, much of the town will be rebuilt. No one & no where is safe from these monstrous storms! Everyone must keep vigilant & keep their eye to the sky.
